The Mirror

I look upon your face my friend
Not recognizing what I see
Your a shadow of yourself
Of what you used to be
Your eyes, so sad and empty
Your soul, so cold and dark
There used to be life in those eyes
There once was faith in your heart
And the smile has gone from your lips!
Please, tell me what I might do
To bring back your happy laughter
And the joy that you once knew?
You've grown so pale, like a fading ember
You used to shine brightly, try to remember!
What has this world done to you
To cause you so much pain?
You used to love dancing
In the warmth of the summer rain
Who was it that hurt you
That stole away so much hope?
That you drift through this life
Not knowing quite how to cope
But alas, there's nothing left I can do
This, I see, could not be clearer
And with a sigh I sadly turn
Away from the face in the mirror
